Welcome to Wollongong Shotokan Karate!  General Classes currently run Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7:25pm at the Dapto Ribbonwood Centre. In the future, a brown/black belt extension class will immediately follow the general class from 7:30-8pm.

The club was established in September 2019 and follows the teachings of the legendary Hirokazu Kanazawa Soke.

The club is registered with Shotokan Karate International Australia (SKIA), which is a branch of Shotokan Karate International Federation (SKIF), now headed by Nobuaki Kanazawa Kancho. SKIA is also an affiliate of the Australian Karate Federation (AKF).

The overarching purpose of Wollongong Shotokan Karate is to cultivate a strong sense of belonging amongst club members while at the same time engaging in high-quality karate training. Enhancing the overall well-being of fellow karate practitioners (referred to as karateka) while at the same time striving to develop good technique and fitness play an important role in day-to-day dojo training. Respect toward each other as equals as well as developing self-esteem and confidence through positive relationships and through constructive assessments of our karate performance are all integral elements of achieving this. Students should come away from classes feeling like valued members of a club while at the same time receiving regular feedback on how to improve their karate.

Please take some time to navigate our website to get a feel for the type of karate that we practice, and whether it’s a good fit for you. Also be sure to make friends with us on Facebook, which may give you some additional insights into the friendly and inclusive nature of our club. All adults and children ages 10+ are welcome to participate.

Oss!
